Lt. Gen (Ret) John Sattler graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1971 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps.  He served as a Marine officer for 37 years retiring in 2008 from his last position as the Director for Strategic Plans and Policy for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  During his 37-year career he served in numerous command and staff positions in the Marine Corps and within Joint Commands.  His assignments as a general officer included: Assistant Division Commander, Second Marine Division; Director for Combating Terrorism on the Joint Staff; Director of Marine Corps Public Affairs; Commanding General of the Second Marine Division; Commander Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa; Director of Operations, Central Command; and Commanding General of the 50,000 Marine and Sailor First Marine Expeditionary Force in Iraq 2004-2005.
He currently holds the Leadership Chair in the Vice Admiral James Stockdale Ethical Leadership Center at the US Naval Academy and is on the Board of Directors for the World Class Semper Fi Fund Veterans’ Charity.
