IntelliDyne Technical Analyst, Carole Brown

Employee Spotlight on Carole Brown

How long have you been with IntelliDyne?
I’m still a fairly new employee! I started in September 2022 in the role of Project Manager & Senior Technical Program Planning Analyst.

What was your first job?
Now that’s a funny story. My very first job was as a stage crew at my music school when I was 14 years old. I’d asked my mother for a piece of technology for my birthday (a tape recorder-radio combo) and she said no, because “that’s a do you have a job??” item. So, I asked the program manager at my music school (which was separate from academic school) if he needed help and he recommended that I work there! My mom had to sign the work permit and boom! First Job!

What influenced or drove you to pursue a career in technical analysis?
Solving Problems. One of the main reasons I ended up studying and working in the systems engineering field was wanting to come up with cool ways to solve problems. I’ve worked on the purely technical side of coding, installations, implementation, help desk and design with prior companies. But it was the desire to also develop and deliver options, explore opportunities, make and manage the plan to bring technology, processes and other means to advance and improve business both for clients and internally, that drives me. I enjoy how it all fits together and my job gives me the opportunity to do this every day.

What do you enjoy most about your role at IntelliDyne?
It’s Not Boring! This job keeps me on my toes with new, challenging, and cool tasks/things to do each and every day. Also getting to know everyone is a major perk of the job.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?
Take it all in. The first couple of weeks will be spent getting statutory training and tasks done. Don’t rush them. Schedule 1:1 time with your team and manager each week right way. Book that time. Also lock in dedicated focus time to read email, answer calls, and read materials. This is outside of regular tasks. Carve out time to breathe and center your day each day. Because time will get away from you quickly!

What parts of our mission do you connect with?
All of it! However, since I have to pick one… I would say creating innovative, people-first IT solutions is the most resonant for me. I would add that this grows with client needs dynamically. Having spent a lot of time working to create business process, systems and change management solutions for customers in the public sector, the one thing that will kill a relationship and tank a successful job quickly? Delivering a “closed-model” product. Why? If we can’t help the customer understand where they are in the now (As-Is), help them to communicate where they want to be next (To-Be) and how to have that narrative grow, change and evolve as their mission and technology grows, changes and evolves then we are not doing our job or servicing the customer to the best of our ability. But the solution needs to be relevant, impactive, exciting and have meaning for the customer. Even if that means advising the customer that maybe they should dream and plan bigger. That a “closed-model” solution that can’t scale with their needs will fail in short order and cease to service their mission. So yep, I relate to all of them but relevant and dynamic innovative solutions? That’s it.

Which one of our corporate values is the most meaningful to you (inclusion, integrity, service) and why?
The top two are inclusion and integrity. Because without both? It’s impossible to deliver quality service.

Which of IntelliDyne’s benefits is your favorite?
FLEXIBLE PTO. Hands down.

What is one unique or fun fact that others may not know about you?
I’ll give you two: 1. Skydiving and Volcanoes. I am obsessed with both and have climbed both on and inside (dormant) volcanoes on 3 continents and I have been skydiving on 3 continents. 2. Travel Goals. I am on a current mission to visit all 50 states (9 to go) and all 7 continents (4 down 3 to go).

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
My top 4 hobbies/interests are finding cool and unique foodie haunts and recipes to enjoy, all things nerdy and geeky, good music (both to enjoy and to play), and gardening.

What is on your bucket list?
To travel to all 7 continents and explore cool cultures through food and music.
