Employee Spotlight on James Daniels, IntelliDyne User Experience Manager

Employee Spotlight on James Daniels

What is your role at IntelliDyne?
My current role is User Experience Manager for Web & Mobile Technology, where I manage a group of UX Designers. As a UX Designer myself, our work encompasses an end-user’s interaction with the company, its services, and its products. We also study and evaluate how users feel about a system, looking at things such as ease of use, perception of the value of the system, utility, efficiency in performing tasks, and usability.

What about your job makes you jump out of bed each morning?
The thing about my job that makes me want to jump out of bed each morning is knowing that every day we get to make discoveries about how people use our product and how we can add value and ease to that experience.

What influenced or drove you to become an expert in your field?
What drives me to become an expert in my field is that when one is given opportunities, one should make the most of them, we should always challenge ourselves to do and learn more. I want to be better than I was yesterday, last year, or 10 years ago. I do not just want to do the bare minimum.

What was your dream job growing up?
My dream job growing up was to be an architect. However, I could always draw, and an art class in high school lead me to choose art as a major at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.

How have you taken ownership of your career at IntelliDyne?
I began my career at IntelliDyne as a User Experience Analyst and was recently promoted to User Experience Manager. I have always believed in taking ownership of my career, as most careers are planned, not just haphazardly fallen into. I received my UX Certification with Nielsen Norman Group, SCRUM MASTER certificate, Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), and helped manage a few small projects, all of which have contributed to my career advancement. I simply focused on adding value to my team and learning new skillsets. I continue to do so via tuition reimbursements, professional development programs, and training.

What are three words you would use to describe IntelliDyne?
Family, Opportunity, Professional

Which one of our corporate values is the most meaningful to you?
Since I can only choose one, I will go with Service. My reasoning is that we all serve someone in some capacity. In my experience, being in a position of service is a powerful place. It may be old-fashioned, but it means going the extra mile to make sure a customer is happy and satisfied with our products or services. I have always remembered good service when I received it, and it kept me coming back.

What is one unique or fun fact that others may not know about you?
Here’s a fun fact about me. In a former life, I have had my music played on the radio (Terrestrial and Sirius XM). I still sing… maybe something new will come one day.
