IntelliDyne Capture Manager, Eric Chan

Employee Spotlight on Eric Chan

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Eric Chan, I’ve been with IntelliDyne for almost two years in the role of Capture Manager.

What do you think makes IntelliDyne a great place to work?
IntelliDyne has an extremely inclusive culture that enables everyone to contribute in a valuable manner. Our team truly enjoys collaborating and providing above-and-beyond service to not just our customers but to teammates and partners as well.

What was your first job?
I started working at a pretty young age as a second-generation immigrant. My family had a clothing factory in Chinatown, NY and I initially helped out as the person who put the extra button into the small envelope that you see in clothing. When I was a bit older, my family opened a Dry Cleaners in Seldon, NY and I worked there until I was able to move away to Albany, NY for university.

What influenced or drove you to pursue a career in Business Development/Capture?
I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to be in the role that I am in today. When I first started my professional career, I was in a high-demand and oversaturated industry (Casino/Hospitality) that required long hours with limited ability for growth. I was able to work my way to middle management but knew it wasn’t enough for the amount of time I was investing. One of my friends/co-workers eventually left and convinced me to switch over to the Healthcare/IT staffing industry and during my time there I met a lot of commercial and government contractor clients. It was also very surprising that a lot of my prior casino/hospitality clients were in the government contracting industry. After about 3 years in the staffing business and developing a lot of close relationships, I had the opportunity to take on my first role as a BD/Capture Manager and have not looked back since. In this role, I truly feel that I have the ability to utilize all of the skills I have developed and grow significantly.

What do you enjoy most about your role at IntelliDyne?
As a business developer for most of my career, I enjoy being able to lead the full lifecycle of BD/Capture and support proposal development for opportunities we’re targeting. Everyone willingly wears multiple hats in our organization with a growth mindset which brings in many channels to collaborate, learn, and grow together. Our team has done an amazing job ensuring to always exceed client expectations which makes it a lot easier for me to have the opportunity to expand our client base.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or speak up. IntelliDyne has seasoned employees and a significant amount of us have been with the company for over 10 years. Everyone always makes time for each other and is willing to help. The team is always open to new ideas and suggestions as part of our motivation for continuous improvement.

What parts of our mission do you connect with? (IntelliDyne’s Mission: To empower the federal workforce through the delivery of quality, mission-aligned services, and innovative, people-first IT solutions.)
I would say the delivery of quality. Quality has a different meaning to many people. To me, being able to deliver something that can be considered quality means truly understanding the person and what their problems are. From there, you can custom-build a quality solution for them that adapts to the needs of their unique environment.

Which one of our corporate values is the most meaningful to you (inclusion, integrity, service)?
Integrity. Integrity is one of the most important things because it is the foundation for always doing the right thing. When you do the right thing, right things happen. It is something everyone should strive to maintain and never falter from.

Which of IntelliDyne’s benefits are your favorite and why?
My favorite is definitely the 401k and 401k match. I have worked for small businesses and large businesses and have not seen one as robust as the one we have here at IntelliDyne!

What is one unique or fun fact that others may not know about you?
I like to invest and have some equity in friends’ businesses such as Mochinut Richmond and Supreme Crab down in Denton, TX. Contact me for a friends/family discount!

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I used to be an avid poker player and still play an occasional Texas Hold’em No-Limit cash game/poker tournament if I have time.

What’s on your bucket list?
I have played a couple of regional and smaller World Series of Poker (WSOP) events but would love to at least play once in the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas.
